Kinder, 1st, 2nd Grade Reading Difficulties Risk Screener Administration

Dear Parent/Guardian,

We hope this letter finds you well. We are writing to inform you that your child will be participating in the required Reading Difficulties Risk Screener (RDRS). Beginning in the 2025-2026 school year, Education Code section 53008 requires that all kindergarten, grade 1 and grade 2 students be screened annually for risk of reading difficulties. This screener is designed to identify students who may be at risk for reading difficulties, allowing us to monitor early literacy skills and provide timely support. The results of this screener will only be used to better support your child's improvement in reading.

Your child will be administered mCLASS DIBELS 8th Edition or Lectura on November 3 as part of our ongoing efforts to support the academic growth and development of all students.

If you do not want to have your child participate in the RDRS administration, you must submit a written request before the date the RDRS is scheduled. For your convenience, you may request a Parent Exemption Request Form from your child’s school, or you may submit your own written note or letter directly to the school.

We believe that early identification and intervention are key to helping students thrive, and we are excited to partner with you in ensuring your child’s continued success.  If you have any questions or would like more information about the screener, please feel free to contact Harvard Elementary at (323) 953-4540. Thank you for your continued support.
